Tasting for whisky beginners
Every first Wednesday of the month
What is whisky? What does whisky taste like? Why do some people make it a "science"? Why do we have whisky and whiskey? Questions upon questions.
The crucial question, however, is: Do I like whisky? And that's where we come in. Our beginner's tasting covers a diverse range of the various varieties of the cult drink "whisk(e)y." We explain the differences, production methods, history, regions, countries, and answer the most pressing questions. All of this is illustrated with practical examples.
Whisky is a "four-component luxury item"—in fact! All you really need is a used wooden barrel, water, yeast, and grain. So why open a barrel just for the sake of bouquet, flavor, finish, choice of glass, and "ingredients in the glass"? Using individually selected distillates, the large and subtle differences between the various bottlings quickly become apparent.
In our beginner tastings we taste (subject to change):
- Whiskies of different origins - e.g. from Ireland, the USA and Scotland
- Original bottlings and bottlings from independent bottlers
- Drinking strengths and cask strengths
- Different barrel maturations or finishes
We will focus on colors, aromas and flavors and learn why sometimes a drop of water can make the barrel overflow, but can certainly make the palate overflow.
This enjoyable introduction to the wonderful world of whisky includes:
- 6 x 2cl finest whiskies
- Welcome drama
- Mineral water (still and sparkling)
- Crispy white bread to refresh the palate between taste delights
- Printed information about the distilleries and the whiskies tasted (to take away)
- Moderation and entertainment and lots of FUN
We have space for a maximum of 12 participants – pre-registration is required. Please remember to bring a snack before the tasting.
