Whisky from Scotland's islands - we will be dealing with this in depth in this themed tasting
Sure, many people immediately think of Islay when they think of Scottish islands and whisky. But the fact is that many islands around Scotland's coast boast excellent and delicious whiskies. These fine spirits reflect their place of origin. We experience a wildness, wind, sea air, and primeval vegetation in our glass. With one sip, whisky conjures up images of a windswept beach as well as a sun-drenched moorland with gently swaying heather fields.
With Highland Park and Scapa, the Orkney Islands in the far north boast two iconic distilleries. On the wild island of Jura, the distillery of the same name has been bottling maritime treasures since 1810 (reopened in 1960). Talisker, from the boisterous Isle of Skye, treats us to unparalleled salty, smoky distillates. The Ledaig and Tobermory bottlings from the beautiful Isle of Mull make any whisky lover's heart beat faster. And, of course, let's not forget the islands of Raasay and Arran. Arran now boasts two distilleries producing beautiful, robust malts, some peated, some with exotic finishes.
